left or right?
You're a student at Bard Graduate School, in an art history class writing a paper about a particular sculpture. You've completed three quarters of the paper but you still have to see the sculpture in person. The paper is due tomorrow and you've taken the train into the city to visit the piece but there were delays and you get to the museum at 4:00 pm. It's closing soon.
Let's go !You enter the museum lobby, you need to buy a ticket. To your left, you see the queue, do you stand in the queue? Or do you walk around the lobby ? The line doesn't look too long but maybe there is another way to purchase a ticket.
You've chosen to stand in line, it's longer than you thought from the entrance. You've lost 15 minutes
You've chosen to walk around the lobby. You notice a small kiosk with no line, you purchase a ticket without waiting.
You've bought your ticket. You have a dollar left in your wallet, you can choose to either buy a map or check your coat and backpack.
You are now ready to enter the museum. You turn around, and there are three doors. You need to choose. Through the Left door you see galleries. More people are entering this door, it looks like a tour has just started. The Center door is behind a velvet curtain. Your last option is the Right door leading you up a staircase. Which door do you choose?
You've chosen the stairs. You emerge on the balcony. Taking a look around, you see there is another gallery door on the other side. Which direction do you take? Left or Right?
You cross the lobby and step into gallery 101. It's now time for you to make your way through the galleries. You are pretty short on time, so you need to move quickly here. Remember the gallery you are looking for is 276. It's in the north west corner. [You can only access the map if you bought one]
That was helpful! Let's make a choice.
Pulling the curtain open, a short hallway is revealed. You walk down. At the end of the hallway is a fork, do you go left or right?
You've chosen to walk around the balcony from the left. As you walk a group of tourists stop you and ask for a photo. They want multiple poses and it takes a while. You lose 5 minutes. You finally step into gallery 201. It's now time for you to make your way through the galleries. You are pretty short on time, you need to move quickly here. Remember the gallery you are looking for is 276. It's in the North West corner. [You can only access the map if you bought one]
That was helpful! Let's make a choice.
You've chosen to walk around the balcony to the right. You make your way around the balcony quickly and step into gallery 202. It's now time for you to make your way through the galleries. You are pretty short on time, you need to move quickly here. Remember gallery you are looking for is 276. It's in the north west corner. [You can only access the map if you bought one]
That was helpful! Let's make a choice.
You choose to take the left hallway. You go past a restroom with no line! You take advantage. You lost a little time, but it's okay you feel refreshed.
You choose to take the right hallway. You pass a water fountain and realize how thirsty you are. You stop and take a drink.
That was a pretty long walk but you've arrived at a pair of double doors. You enter. The doors are heavy and close quickly behind you. You're left in a completely dark room. As your eyes adjust, you notice two light sources. Do you move towards the sharp beam of light or the soft gradient?
You pass through the sharp beam of light and enter onto the balcony of the rotunda. Taking a look around, you see there is a gallery door on the other side. Which direction do you take? Left or Right?
You follow the light gradient into a corridor stair. You climb the stairs.
As you exit you encounter a docent and ask for directions to Gallery 276. "Good news" she says, "You're almost there. The fourth door in this corridor will take you into the galleries and then you'll need to look for a stair to go down. Do you have a map?
She draws the pathway through the galleries on your map. You start off down the corridor. The doors are matched. Is the fourth door to the left or right?
She says it's okay. There's plenty of docents in the galleries and they'll help you find your way. You start off down the corridor. The doors are matched. Is the fourth door to the left or right?
Looks like the end is in sight! Let's head toward the stairs.
Looks like the end is in sight! Let's head toward the stairs.
You come out of the galleries across from a special exhibition. The sculpture you are looking for is right on the other side. You can wait in line, and make your way through the exhibition. You can slide under the stanchion and run through. Or you can take the stairs and cut around on the floor above.
Good job! You've made it through the galleries. Straight ahead is a flight of stairs. This looks like your only option, you take the steps down.

The door opens into Gallery 301. It's now time for you to make your way through the galleries. You are pretty short on time, you need to move quickly here. Remember, the gallery you are looking for is in the north west corner. [You can only access the map if you bought one]
You've chosen to open the right door. As you open it, you realize this can't be right–it's some kind of storage. Objects come clattering into the corridor. Just as you're trying to decide what to do, you hear brisk footsteps coming your way from further down the hall.
You don't want to be caught trespassing! Quick, jump in that trash can!
The trash can is dark, and muffles the noises from the hallway. You're relieved to have dodged a tricky situation. Your heart rate begins to slow, but then you hear someone open the door. The trash can starts to move. Eventually the can is left on the street and you're able to climb out. You make your way into the museum lobby. You'll have to move even faster now!
Looks like the end is in sight! Let's head toward the stairs.
Wow that line was long, but making your way through the exhibition you feel really inspired! Some of these pieces are really relevant to your practice.
Did you get a map or did you check your backpack?
Looks like the stairs were the fastest option. You didn't get to see the special exhibition, but you are making great time! Do you go left or right?
Uh oh! Your backpack gets caught on the stanchion rope, you make a scene! Wish you would have checked that backpack.... Hope the map was worth it! A guard approaches and you're given a stern talking to. You are sent to the back of the exhibition line. You loose a bunch of time, and now you have to rush through the special exhibition galleries.
Phew! That was close. Somehow you're able to slide under the stanchion and move quickly to blend into the crowd. Don't think you would've been able to pull that off if you hadn't checked your backpack. But you didn't get to see much of the show as you were running through.
You're looking down on gallery 276, so close! How do we get down there? Do you take a closer look over the railing hoping to see a path down? There's a door across the room, do you open it? Maybe it leads to another stair...
You've come to the end of the special exhibition. Finally, you can see Gallery 276– right up there. You're so close, but how do you get up to the gallery? The special exhibition gift shop is to your left, maybe there's some stairs through there? Or do you back away from the mezzanine to get a better angle and hopefully see a route?
Leaning over the edge of the railing you don't see any indication that there is a stair down. Let's reconsider our other options. You can check the door across the room or... there's a column next to you, and it's not such a far distance, do you slide down?
The door doesn't have a handle on this side. You can't open it. Let's reconsider our other options. You can peer over the railing, to get a better sense for the route down or... There's a column next to you, and it's not such a far distance, do you slide down?
The door doesn't have a handle on this side. You can't open it and while you were investigating they started waxing the floor in the exterior hallway... Looks like your only option now is to slide down the column.

That's definitely the right gallery but you don't see a clear path forward. The special exhibition gift shop is to your left, maybe there's some stairs through there? Or you could try climbing onto the Mezzanine from here.
The gift shop is just a side room, you don't see any other exits but there's some good stuff. Do you buy a scarf for your mom or an umbrella for your uncle?

Given the late hour, you were last person to go through the special exhibition. While you were in the giftshop, the exhibition closed behind you. Do you back away from the mezzanine to get a better angle and hope to see a connecting route or try to climb onto the mezzanine from here?

Good thing you bought that scarf, you use it to shimmy up the column and onto the mezzanine! You've made it to Gallery 276, and with just enough time. You have 10 minutes to look at your sculpture. Let's look around.

What a relief! You've made it to Gallery 276, and with just enough time. You have 10 minutes to look at your sculpture. Let's look around.
Good Job, you made it out of the gallery. Straight ahead is the flight of stairs the docent mentioned. Do you go up or down?
You've taken the stairs up. This path leads to the alarmed emergency exit door. She must have said take the stairs down. Looks like you'll have to turn around.
You've chosen to take the stairs down. As you exit the stair, the door shuts behind you.
You turn around and go down the stairs instead. As you exit the stair, the door shuts behind you.
You're looking down on Gallery 276, so close! How do you get down there? Do you lean over the railing hoping to see stairs? There's an opening across the room, do you walk over for a better look? Maybe it leads to another route...
Leaning over the edge of the railing you don't see a stair down. You don't notice the sculpture you're here to see either, but maybe its hidden from this perspective.
